Current firmness range
Spindle currently describes the mattress as adjustable from about Medium (5) to Firm (7.5) by rearranging its soft, medium, and firm latex layers. Spindle also cautions that firmness is subjective. Spindle publishes approximate ILD ranges for its soft, medium, and firm layers, but it explicitly warns shoppers not to select a mattress using ILD alone.
Why layer order changes feel
The top layer influences immediate surface pressure and sink most strongly. Deeper layers contribute transition and support. Placing a firmer layer closer to the top generally creates a firmer initial response; placing the softer layer higher increases surface give.
Sleep position
Side sleepers often need more surface accommodation around shoulders and hips, while stomach sleepers commonly prefer enough resistance to keep the pelvis from sinking excessively. Back sleepers often sit between those needs. These are tendencies, not medical rules.
Body weight and perception
A heavier person compresses the same latex stack more deeply than a lighter person, so identical layers can feel softer or firmer to different people. This is one reason a configurable design can be useful.
How to use the trial
Spindle currently offers a 120-night comfort guarantee on eligible direct mattress purchases, subject to its published conditions and exclusions. Use the trial period to evaluate alignment, pressure comfort, ease of movement, temperature, and partner disturbance—not merely the first-night impression. Follow the merchant's current process if you want to alter the feel.
